HISTORY

The Peeler origins, some 30 years ago this season from an idea by John 'The Bear' Rafter, Mike Rafter (Flanker - Bristol, England, Barbarians) and their brothers Kevin, Joe and Will in 1979.Taking its name from a Clifton pub which was often frequented by many of the founder members of the team. The Peeler boasted many sporting sides and turned out teams for Rugby, Golf, Skittles, Darts, Tug of War and Cricket. Always fund raising and for charitable events The Peeler has travelled to many quarters. The team became well known for their open style of play, their gentleman spirit and their post match festivities

As with many good ideas The Peeler's once famous name had begun to fade in recent years as many players retired, But in 2004 new life was breathed into the club when the potential to create and further expand the Peeler brand was seen by newer members of the club.

Initially the club started entering the Bristol Combination 7s competition. The team also started taking the Peeler brand international where they have visited Berlin, Krakow, Warsaw and Barcelona with successful tours

In 2008 saw the re-brand and launch of The Peeler Invitation Sporting Club and its affiliated sports clubs (including The Peeler RFC - The Team of the West Country), since then the club has gone from strength to strength.  After we held the first annual "Peeler Open" golf day raising much needed funds for the Gareth Jones Memorial Fund, And we also managed to help Bristol Imperial RFC re launch their club and new facilities with an exhibition match wearing vintage 1920 style kit. most recently we have been accepted in to the Bristol and District Combination as an affiliate club after we managed to win the Heineken 10s competition beating sides like Dings Crusaders, Caldicot and Bristol University.
