Peeler International XV v Southmead RFC

In what was a most enjoyable day for all involved Southmead RFC put together a great day of community rugby to celebrate the opening of their new changing facilities. The day was kicked of with a junior rugby tournament and was followed but the official opening of the change rooms by non other than local Southmead boy Darth Vader (David Prowse).

The day was then capped off with a great display of rugby when The Peeler XV took on a spirited Southmead XV (or XVII if you actually counted the number of players on the pitch) Both teams were determined not to follow the current trend in world rugby of Kick and chase but opted to keep the ball in hand which saw some cracking length of the pitch tries scored by both teams.

Referee Chris Horsman (Wales) thinks the score was about 66 - 33 in the Peelers favour but found himself so enthralled by the atmosphere and excitement of the day he lost count and even decided to join in the fun and put in a few tackles himself.

Combination Dinner

On Friday 11th September members of the Peeler committee and invited guests were able to attend the B&D Combination dinner. The Event was well attended by members of all rugby clubs in the area to recognise the excellent work done to promote, and maintain rugby in Bristol. Some excellent PR was done to remind the rugby community about what the Peeler are all about and with the Doombar flowing and some old stories from Guest Speaker and former Peeler Gareth Chillcott a great night was had by all.

During the evening The Peeler managed to present Dave Hilton with a commemorative piece signed by his greatest rival New Zealander Olo Brown in recognition for all that Dave has done for rugby from international level to Peeler representation!

The Peelers Pelt The Springboks

Peeler supporters Tommy and Julie Halliday proudly presented Ryan Kankowski (Springbok and Natal Sharks) with a customised, "one of a kind", black springbok pelt to thank him for all his efforts in obtaining the Springbok signatures on the signed British and Irish Lions Tour pelt that has been specially signed by both the Sprigboks and the Lions for The Peeler. Ryan was excited to get the Springbok team to sign the pelt as to his knowledge, neither him nor any of the other current Springbok team had ever been asked to sign anything like this before. Tommy said, "This truly is a one of a kind item that will never be repeated! A must have item for any die hard Lions or Springbok supporter."
